Florida Nonprofits, State and Preservationists Unite to Help Cultural Organizations Prepare for Emergencies
Florida Humanities and the Florida Association of Museums proudly partner with preservationists to help cultural organizations brace for additional disasters and pandemics by producing a series of training webinars designed to enhance the emergency planning capacity of cultural institutions across Florida.
Our Commitment
Florida Humanities expresses our shared grief for the recent deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and so many others who have lost their lives as a result of racial violence. It is our obligation to use the humanities to understand racism and injustice and how to curb their influence in society.

2020 Poetry Out Loud
St. Petersburg, Florida (March 3, 2020)–Zhaedyn Hodge Sigars, a Senior at Blake High School in Tampa, successfully defended his title as State Champion for Florida’s Poetry Out Loud competition. Mr. Sigars will represent Florida in the 2020 national competition on April 27, 2020.
Get Acquainted with Danielle Allen
Dr. Danielle Allen, James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard University, is one of several speakers organized throughout the “Democracy Reignited” initiative. These lectures feature premier scholarship and seek to expand public knowledge on U.S. history and government.
Voices and Votes: Democracy in America
The “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America” Smithsonian Institution exhibition will travel on a statewide tour to small towns across Florida from August 2020 to February 2021. “Voices and Votes” takes a broad look at the ever-evolving story of our American democracy.
