A Timeline of Trade through Five Generations of the Fort Pierce Brown Family

October 3 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

As part of their “Feeding the American Spirit: 250 years of Homegrown History” program series, the Florida Remembered Society welcomes Rollins Brown, a 5th-generation descendant of local pioneers Annie and Benjamin Hogg, for a program highlighting his family’s timeline of trade from the pioneer trading post to modern technology.

Rollins’ great-great-grandparents, the Hoggs, established one of Fort Pierce’s first trading posts in 1879. Their customers included pioneers, Seminole Indians, and occasional tourists. Their business grew from a palmetto shack and a trade boat along the river to the general store the Hoggs built in the 1880s, which still stands today in downtown Fort Pierce.

Seating is limited and may be reserved by calling 772-267-4873.

Funding for this program was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Additional support is provided by the Jacarlene Foundation. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities, the National Endowment for the Humanities, or the Jacarlene Foundation.
