Afro-Caribbean Migration to Florida

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Florida International University is hosting a lecture. On Afro-Caribbean migration to Florida. This program will examine the migration and settlement patterns of the various Afro-Caribbean peoples who made Florida their home and their contributions to its history and culture. This lecture is part of a large programming effort organized by OLLI and their local partners to host in-person and virtual events that explore the humanities through music history, cultural studies, and American and Florida history.
Magdalena Lamarre is a retired professor from Miami Dade College (MDC) where she taught History and Sociology. During her tenure, she co-produced three oral history documentaries and was awarded the prestigious MDC Alumni Association Endowed Teaching Chair in 2011 along with the NISOD Excellence Award in 1994 and 2012. She earned her MA in History from SUNY at Stony Brook University and completed her post-graduate studies at the University of Miami and Florida International University in Education and Sociology.
