An Elegy to Rosewood Opening Reception and Panel Discussion

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum will host a panel discussion in coordination with their new special exhibition, An Elegy to Rosewood . Panelists will assess the ramifications and dissemination of racial violence in Florida. The discussion will feature the Founder of The Real Rosewood Foundation, Lizzie Jenkins, and its Vice President, Pedro Jermaine, alongside Alexandra Cornelius, Ph.D. and Daniel Royles, Ph.D., FIU professors of History. To accompany the themes of the exhibition, discussion topics will include the power of oral histories, family, and generational resilience.
Part of FAM’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Exhibition Series, this An Elegy to Rosewood will recognize the women who were critical in preserving Rosewood’s history and highlight female-identifying artists based in Miami. An Elegy to Rosewood comprises historic and contemporary photographs, innovative digital materials, and oral histories. This exhibition will feature historical objects from The Real Rosewood Foundation, many of which will be publicly displayed for the first time. The exhibition will open January 25, 2023 and run through April 16, 2023.
The panel discussion will begin at 3pm and will be immediately followed by the exhibition opening reception. This exhibition and related programming are funded in part through a Florida Humanities Community Project Grant in partnership with the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum (FAM) at Florida International University.
