Events Calendar

In local communities across Florida, humanities-rich programming is making a lasting impact in the hearts and minds of Sunshine State residents and visitors alike. Florida Humanities is proud to partner with local community champions to bring you high-quality public programming through Community Project Grants, Florida Talks, Museum on Main Street, and more.

Alert: Due to Hurricane Ian, some events have been canceled or postponed. We are working to ensure that our events calendar remains accurate. We strongly urge you to call the event contact for any program you are interested in to confirm that the event is still planned.

Braver Angels Online Debate

October 8, 2020 @ 5:00 pm

Voices and Votes, American Democracy Exhibit by Smithsonian

This event has been canceled.

A Braver Angels Debate is a different kind of debate in which a group of people think together, listen carefully to one another, and allow themselves to be touched and perhaps changed by each other’s ideas. When done well, everyone walks out a little closer to the truth, more aware of the validity in opposing views, and with tighter community relationships. The debate topic for this event is: “Resolved: The universal voting age in the US should be lowered to 16.”

This program is put on as part of Florida Humanities’ Museum on Main Street program. The “Voices & Votes: Democracy in America” exhibit and related programming are brought to you by Florida Humanities and the Smithsonian Institution. We would also like to thank the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for their generous support of this initiative and the Pulitzer Prizes for their partnership. Local Sarasota support has been provided by Gulf Coast Community Foundation.
