Coming out of History’s Dark Corners
March 4, 2020 @ 7:00 pm

Coming out of History’s Dark Corners is a free exhibit celebrating the evolution of services for persons with disabilities. The exhibit is designed to expose local citizens, government officials and decision makers in the surrounding area to the challenges persons with disabilities have in accessing our community. We will be looking back in time at where we have come from to where we are now and a look forward in time celebrating the new look of services for persons with disabilities and what we feel is a bright future for this very important segment of our culture and society.
In collaboration with Easterseals SWFL, The Out-of-Door Academy, Sarasota County Historical Resources and Sarasota ADA, we have created an engaging and thought-provoking display of historical artifacts, quotes form stakeholders, newspaper clippings and works of art. The exhibit tells the story of persons with disabilities and their challenges and triumphs going back over one hundred years.
In addition, we will host Stephen Kuusisto, distinguished professor, author and poet. Stephen will be available to talk about his book “Have Dog, Will Travel: A Poet’s Journey” and to talk about his own personal journey.
Join us on March 4th from 7:00-9:00 at the Chidsey Building for an enlightening and celebratory evening.
Light refreshments and snacks will be available.
This event is funded in part by a Florida Humanities Community Project Grant, in partnership with Easterseals SWFL, Inc.
