Program Description:

Florida’s history as territory and state can be told through the changing methods of transportation designed to move people and goods both to Florida and within Florida. Examining the changing transportation networks in the state, this presentation shows how Florida moved from a backwoods frontier to one of the most important states in the union. Tying transportation history to social history, this presentation moves from the Bellamy Road of the 1820’s to the modern transportation issues facing the Sunshine State in the 21st century.

The event is free to members of the Friends of the Sarasota County History Center; $5 for non-members. Light refreshments will be available.

Reservations recommended: 941-361-2453 or info@foschc.org
