Program Description:

Join us at the Lake Wales Museum as we host Dr. Gary Mormino, Frank E. Duckwall Florida Professor of History Emeritus at USF St. Petersburg, as he presents “Florida and World War II.” Mormino will explore Florida’s role in the war. On the eve of Pearl Harbor, Florida was the smallest state in the South. Today, Florida is a Sunbelt megastate. World War II is the lynchpin. The war galvanized Floridians, resulting in the influx of two million servicemen. WWII also ignited a modern civil rights movement, new roles¬†forwomen, and the dawn of the Florida Dream.

We are very excited to partner with Visit Central Florida, the Florida Humanities Council, and the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs to offer this program.
