From These Roots We Thrive: A Multi-Generational Charge to Preserve African American History

Anniversary to Commemorate the Civil Rights Demonstrations (ACCORD) is hosting speakers series called “From These Roots We Thrive: A Multi-Generational Charge To Preserve African American History. The first talk will present Dr. Yanela G. Mcleod (Florida A&M University) for a Q&A and small group discussion on the societal impacts of preserving African American History. Dr. Mcleod will discuss her current work in social history, journalism and film that highlights the critical importance of sharing and preserving family history and community experiences as a part of cultural preservation and social advancement.

Registrations is suggested, but not required. Participants are welcome to explore the ACCORD Museum to learn about St. Augustine’s Civil Rights history through guided and self-led tours, a trolley tour of 25 Civil Rights sites in St. Augustine (registration required), and to further engage with Dr. Mcleod at a Meet & Greet the day following the lecture.
