Good Day Sunshine State: The Beatles in 1964 Florida

August 31 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Through dozens of primary interviews, letters, photographs, and court transcripts, author Bob Kealing chronicles the Beatles’ travels in this presentation through the potboiler that was 1964 Florida. Bob Kealing is the author of five books on Florida history and culture. He is a six-time Emmy Award-winning retired reporter and two-time recipient of the Edward R Murrow Award. Also a historic preservationist, Kealing is the founder of Four Florida Heritage Sites, commemorating Jack Kerouac, the Allman Brothers Band, Gram Parsons, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He is the married father of two college-age children.

This program is part of Vero Beach Museum of Art’s exhibition Rock N’ Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip: Photographs by Robert Landau on view through September 1. Visitors can be transported to Los Angeles’ celebrated Sunset Strip of 1960s and 70s and rock n’ roll nostalgia through 50 photographs, 40 of Robert Landau’s work and 10 complementary historical photos to reveal the progression of signage into billboard art, highlighting the intersection of art and advertising. More information and additional public programming can be found at .

Registration is not required. Admission to the museum and program are free. This Florida Talks program is a partnership between Florida Humanities and the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
