February 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Venue:Sulphur Springs Museum and Heritage Center
1101 E. River Cove St.
Tampa, FL 33604
This talk by Gary Monroe tells the story of these now-acclaimed artists, who taught themselves to paint idyllic versions of the Florida landscape and sell their creations door-to-door during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Their paintings have become the measure of indigenous Florida art and are now celebrated and widely collected. This talk is in conjunction with the exhibit, “Just Above the Water: Florida Folk Art,” which is in residence at Sulphur Springs Jan. 21-March 31.
