Home: A Journey through Time, Space, and Memory

February 24, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Delray Beach Public Library presents Home: A Journey through Time, Space, and Memory as part of its “Stories of Exile” reading groups and programs for public libraries.

Storyteller, Caren Neile, facilitates a lively and moving exploration of stories of home-what they mean and how they make people who they are. Participants will then draw a memory map of a street, neighborhood, or town from a place that was once home as they remember it. They will be invited to share their memory map and the story with the group. Participants will also have the opportunity to record their story in a state-of-the-art recording studio for sharing with family and friends and optional sharing on the Delray Beach Public Library website beside a picture of their map.

Caren Schnur Neile, Ph.D., MFA, has been a storyteller for adults for over two decades. She has taught storytelling studies at Florida Atlantic University since 2000. Her numerous publications include the books Hidden: A Sister and Brother in Nazi Poland, (Univ. of Wisconsin), Peninnah’s World: A Jewish Life in Stories (Hamilton) and, with Sam Ron, A Jewish Journey: Surviving and Thriving in Poland, Israel and the United States (Hamilton).

This program is intended for adult participants. All materials will be provided.

Registration is required to attend. Free parking is available behind the library. Funding for this program is provided through Community Project Grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in partnership with the Delray Beach Public Library. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
