Latin American/Latinx Flim Festival: Los Lobos

September 29, 2023 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The University of Central Florida’s School of Politics, Security, and International Affairs is hosting the fourth event in the “Latin American/Latinx Film Festival” to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. A series of films will be presented along with a Q&A with the directors of the films and scholars. This event is in person with a virtual participation option. Los Lobos follows brothers Max and Leo who, together with their mother Lucia, have just crossed the border from Mexico into the United States in search of a better life. While waiting for Lucia to return from work, the kids build an imaginary universe with their drawings and think about Mom’s promise of “Disneyland,” the land of their dreams. This film is an absorbing coming-of-age story about migrant life through the prism of its most innocent figures. This film will be screened in Spanish and Cantonese with English subtitles. A discussion will follow with the film’s director Samuel Kishi Leopo and Dr. Esmeralda Duarte of UCF.

UCF parking is by virtual permit; $5 before 5:30 p.m. and $3 after 5:30 p.m. Daily permits may park in any “D” parking lots and garages. For access to the virtual platform, registration is required.

Funding for this series of film screenings and discussions is provided in part through a Florida Humanities Greater Good: Humanities in Academia Grant with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in partnership with the University of Central Florida. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
