Program Description:

Sports and the pursuit of recreation and leisure activities bring people and communities together. These activities have also exposed tensions and challenged racial norms. What were leisure and recreational like in Sulphur Springs and Spring Hill (Tampa) in the early 1900s and what can we learn today from this look back? Talk presented in conjunction with the Smithsonian exhibition Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America.
