Only in Florida! Your Story, Your Art
March 4, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The well-worn cliché Yes, but is it art? speaks volumes about what is and is not considered art in our society. And, who is and who is not considered an artist.
Only in Florida! Your Story, Your Art is a dynamic performance/lecture that weaves together the creative impulses and talents of storytellers and outsider visual artists-both groups who were long considered unworthy of serious recognition and study. Participants will hear so-called ordinary people’s stories from the book Only in Florida and learn how their own stories can be shared as lasting folk art, whether in the family, in public, or even on public radio.
Dovetailing with the Museum’s exhibition “An Irresistible Urge to Create: The Monroe Family Collection of Florida Outsider Art,” the program connects listeners with the exhibition’s artwork and artists in a more meaningful way.
Funding for this program was provided through a grant from the Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
