Miami Book Fair: Michael W. Twitty In Conversation With Hilary Cadigan
November 18, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Miami Book Fair 2022 presents Michael W. Twitty on Koshersoul: The Faith and Food Journey of an African American Jew, in conversation with Hilary Cadigan, culture editor at Bon Appetit. Here, Twitty explores the cultural crossroads of Jewish and African diaspora cuisines and issues of memory, identity, and food. Jews of color are not outliers, Twitty contends, but significant cultural creators in both Black and Jewish civilizations. Koshersoul, which includes 50 recipes, also explores how food has shaped the journeys of numerous cooks, including Twitty’s passage to and within Judaism. This program will be available on-demand at MiamiBookFairOnline.com.
Michael W. Twitty is the author of The Cooking Gene, winner of the James Beard Award for writing about food, and the noted culinary and cultural historian creator of “Afroculinaria”, the first blog devoted to African American historic foodways and their legacies. Hilary Cadigan is a James Beard-nominated writer and cultural editor at Bon Appetit. Her work has also appeared on Salon and The Huffington Post, and in The Atlantic, Nylon and Atlanta. This event is funded in part through a Florida Humanities Book Festival Grant in partnership with the Miami Dade College Foundation.
