Over error and oppression: Citizenship & Journalism in the 2020 election in the Era of Fake News
August 27, 2020 @ 6:00 pm

In celebration of the Smithsonian traveling exhibit coming to the Haitian Heritage Museum “Voices and Votes” on (December 17, 2020 – February 6, 2021), we are presenting “Arts Innovation Talk: Vibrant Expressions of Citizenship” series of conversations on the struggles, heartbreaks, and triumphs along the journey toward “unalienable Rights” of citizenship.”
The first topic in the series is Over error and oppression:” Citizenship & Journalism in the 2020 Election. We’re living through historical turbulence in journalism – with the very understanding of fact and reality itself in doubt. We’ll consider what this crisis means for the exercise of our citizenship.
The “Voices & Votes: Democracy in America” exhibit and related programming are brought to you by Florida Humanities and the Smithsonian Institution. We would also like to thank the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for their generous support of this initiative and the Pulitzer Prizes for their partnership. Local support has been provided by Florida Africa American Heritage Preservation Network, Miami Dade County Chairwoman Audrey Edmondson, Commissioner Joe Martinez, Commissioner Denis Moss Culture Builds Florida, and Walmart.
