Politicking Politely: Women Making a Difference in the 1960s and 1970s

April 21 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Women Politicking Politely: Breaking Boundaries in the Workplace and the Home

This presentation with Dr. Kimberly Voss includes the relatively unknown stories of six important women who laid the foundation for improving women’s equality in the U.S. While they largely worked behind the scenes, they made a significant impact. In the group are two female political operatives who worked behind the scenes along with several female journalists who also worked within the government to advance women’s rights during the 1950s through the 1970s.

Parking is available onsite. Refreshments will be served. This program accompanies Voices and Votes: Democracy in America opening at the Sulphur Springs Museum and Heritage Center on March 23, 2024.

Voices and Votes: Democracy in America is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Florida Humanities. Support for the local exhibition and programming was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
