Miami Beach, FL 33139
South Florida People of Color presents the Race in Retrospect series, a “deep dive” into racism in South Florida featuring three widely recognized Black History scholars. Co-hosted by The Betsy Hotel and generously supported by a grant from the Florida Humanities Council. Join us to hear Paul Ortiz, author of An African-American and LatinX History of the United States. Dr Ortiz writes, “This book draws from the voices and experiences of people from the African and LatinX diasporas in the Americas to offer a new interpretation of United States history from the American revolution to the present.” “Placing these struggles at the heart of the historical narrative allows us to reenvision a vibrant past that shines a path for every individual who yearns for a more democratic future.” This author presentation and interview will be followed by audience Q&A and book signing.
