ReadOUT 2024: Fantasy Panel

February 18 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Authors Barbara Ann Wright and David Slayton discuss their works of fantasy fiction in this author conversation. Barbara Ann Wright writes fantasy and science fiction novels starring LGBTQIA characters. She’s won six Rainbow Awards, two Golden Crown Literary Awards, and has been shortlisted in the Foreword Review Book of the Year Awards, and the Lambda Awards. She’s also made must-read lists on Tor.com, BookRiot and Syfy.com. Her newest book, Haunted by Myth, is a modern-day romantic comedy starring Helen of Troy. David R. Slayton (He/Him) grew up in Guthrie, Oklahoma, where finding fantasy novels was pretty challenging and finding fantasy novels with diverse characters was downright impossible. Now he lives in Denver and writes the books he always wanted to read. His debut, White Trash Warlock, was a finalist for the Colorado Book Award.

Admission is $10 for both days with reduced and free admission available. Parking is available onsite and on the street. Meals are not provided as part of the festival but food options are available to purchase onsite and at nearby restaurants. Onsite book sales and author signings will occur both days.

The LGBTQ Resource Center of Gulfport presents the seventh annual ReadOUT LGBTQ Literature Festival on February 16-18, 2024. The LGBTQ Resource Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is committed to promoting the awareness of the experiences, contributions, and needs of people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or queer.

Funding is provided in part through a Florida Humanities Book Festival Grant with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in partnership with the LGBTQ Resource Center of Gulfport. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
