Respect: Soul and the Civil Rights Movement with John Capouya

February 20, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Timmy Thomas

John Capouya will come and present Respect: Soul Music and the Civil Rights Movement. Words, images and stirring music tell the story of the soul music that became the soundtrack of the Civil Rights Movement: Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, Sam and Dave, James Brown, and Florida’s own Timmy Thomas (“Why Can’t We Live Together”). Join us for this exciting musical presentation. Mr. Capouya is an author, journalist, and professor at the University of Tampa. He has written for Newsweek and the New York Times and has published numerous books on a variety of interesting topics. Our 2021 Coffee and Conversations speaker series is funded by the Florida Humanities. The Florida Humanities is an amazing organization that support efforts throughout the state to bring artistic, cultural, and historical programming to local communities. Funding for Florida Humanities comes from the National Endowment for the Humanities and private donations.
