St Lucie Water Champions Virtual Course: “Saving Our Watershed”

Join the Oxbow Eco-Center to start charting a course to healthier, more pristine aquatic habitats in St. Lucie County. Our local waterways are significant environmentally and economically. They give us so much in the way of jobs, recreation, and quality of life. These natural systems are fragile and need our help. The St. Lucie Water Champions virtual course is a great place to begin. In this course, participants will engage in presentations and activities related to the history and ecology of our wetlands and waterways, how to improve the health of these systems, and what each of us can do in our own lives to help create a brighter future for our water. We all share a common watershed and the fate of the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie River rests in our hands. Join us to learn how you can become a “Champion” for clean water. The Water Champions virtual course is recommended for all residents (ages 13 and up) and for anyone that lives in St. Lucie County full or part-time. This flexible hybrid course is designed so that participants can pick and choose whether they attend all three classroom sessions or just the sessions that work for their schedule. On Saturday, December 18th, anyone who has attended one or more of the virtual sessions will be invited for a special in-person field trip to explore our local waterways. – “Water/Ways” and its complementary programs will serve as a community meeting place to convene conversations about water’s impact on American culture.

It’s part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Florida Humanities. Support for the exhibition and programming was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
