Strangers in a Strange Land: Picturing Florida’s History through Art

Event Date:

December 13, 2018 @ 3:00 pm

Venue:

Boca Raton Museum of Art
501 Plaza Real
Boca Raton, FL 33432

Program Description:

Florida has an especially rich visual mythology, images that span centuries of time and attest to both the vivid imagination of the artists who have sought to capture the essence of an exotic landscape and the equally flamboyant narratives that have fueled the region’s reputation for novelty and eccentricity. In this lecture, we will be “looking for Florida” among the many different images that tell the story of a fabled land. But “who” is Florida? And how do we discover her “real” face?
