The Electoral College: Asset or Defect?

November 19 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Attendees can explore one of the most controversial aspects of American democracy: the Electoral College with public librarian Robert Voyles. Attendees can discover its historical origin, operational mechanics, and its profound impact on American elections. Mr. Voyles discusses the benefits, criticisms, questions of representation and voter disenfranchisement, and various reform proposals aimed at reshaping the Electoral College for the future. Robert Voyles is a public librarian with a Bachelor of Arts in American History from the University of Delaware and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from St. John’s University.

Registration is required to attend. Participants can attend in person in Meeting Room A at the library or over Zoom. Free parking is available in the parking lot next to the library and parking garage adjacent to the library.

This program accompanies Voices and Votes: Democracy in America opening at the Leesburg Public Library on November 16, 2024. Voices and Votes: Democracy in America is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and Florida Humanities. Support for the local exhibition and programming was provided through a grant from Florida Humanities with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
