The Local Media and Me—WSLR’s Public Newsroom Series

January 16 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

WSLR presents The Local Media and Me, the first in a series of public newsroom panels. The evening begins with short presentations by three local journalists sharing insiders’ perspectives on how their organizations gather and disseminate news, the limitations they face, and the skills readers and listeners need to move from passive consumers or sideline critics to active participants in news production. In a discussion moderated by anthropologist Maria Vespiri, the audience and panelists are invited to engage in open, wide-ranging dialogue on topics such as the strengths and weaknesses of local reporting, how to identify and address gaps in news coverage, key differences in presenting news and opinion, and the value of hyperlocal news.

Registration is required to attend. Funding for this series of panel discussions are provided in part through a Florida Humanities Community Project Grant with funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in partnership with WSLR. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of Florida Humanities or the National Endowment for the Humanities.
