This is Home: Exploring the New American Experience
February 20, 2020 @ 4:00 pm

Refugee Assistance Alliance will host “This is Home: Exploring the New American Experience,” a documentary screening and community-engaged panel discussion on the journey of four Syrian refugee families resettling in the US and the challenges the face.
The objective of this project is to humanize the complex dynamics and causes of forced displacement with a specific focus on Syrian refugees. The event will be organized on February 20th on the World Day of Social Justice and will consist of a screening of “This is Home: A Refugee Story” (2018) an award-winning documentary film following the journey of four Syrian refugee families resettling in the United States and the challenges they faced in adapting to western culture. The screening will then be followed by a panel discussion, which will include a Syrian refugee, an academic professional actively studying these populations and dynamics, and a service provider that aids newly arrived refugee families. This discussion will provide a vehicle for the community to gain understanding through three different perspectives on the New American experience in South Florida and elsewhere.
This event is funded in part by a Florida Humanities Community Project Grant, in partnership with Refugee Assistance Alliance.
