Dear Friends,

We want to provide you with an update on the operations of Florida Humanities in relation to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Governor Ron DeSantis recently issued an Executive Order to allocate more resources to dealing with the Coronavirus and Florida State’s Surgeon General states that “the threat COVID-19 poses to Florida remains low.”

The offices of Florida Humanities are located on the campus of USF St. Petersburg. The USF System is advising faculty to prepare plans for remote instruction. Florida Humanities Staff, therefore, will begin contingency plans to operate from remote locations. There are specific matters we want to address:

Communication With Staff: Our Staff will be able to respond to questions and business inquiries, but there may be a slight delay in response time. Email is the ideal method to communicate with Florida Humanities Staff.

Public Events: At this time, Florida Humanities is not requiring the cancellation of events sponsored by our organization. We have notified all Partner organizations that they have the flexibility and absolute authority to reschedule or cancel programs as appropriate for their institution and community. We ask that members of the public check our events calendar to ensure that a program of interest is still scheduled to continue.

Funding Opportunities: Deadlines for several upcoming funding opportunities will remain in place over the coming weeks. This includes:

  • Life, Liberty + Libraries–March 16th (More Info)
  • Community Project Grants–April 15th (More Info)
  • Florida Talks–May 1st (More Info)

We encourage all Floridians to monitor updates from the Florida Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control, and your county or local health agency.

This is a unique public health challenge. Successful navigation of this challenge requires us to take care of ourselves and to do what we can to help others. I join the Staff of Florida Humanities in wishing you good health.

Best,

Steve Seibert Signature
