Hurricane Michael: A Community Grows Stronger
October 20, 2020 – November 20, 2020
Panama City Publishing Company Museum
The Museum will be presenting “Hurricane Michael: A Community Grows Stronger” beginning October 20th through November 20th. Hurricane Michael produced extensive damage to Panama City, Florida on October 10th, 2018 and dramatically changed the natural and built environment, and the people. These 14 panels explore the devastation and recovery, based on the stories of local residents, business owners, and non-profit organizations. An opening reception and public program will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at 5:30, with guest speaker Dr. Jason B. Wenzel, Associate Professor, Anthropology and Sociology at Gulf Coast State College. Guests will view the exhibit and after a short program, Dr. Wenzel will facilitate an open discussion.
The Historic St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership received a grant from Florida Humanities for the creation of the exhibit. The panels were developed from submissions after the “call for stories” conducted between October 2019 and May 2020. The exhibit will also be available for loan to other institutions from the Historic St. Andrews Waterfront Partnership or from the Florida Humanities Council. For more information contact the museum at 850-872-7208 or [email protected].
