WHO WE ARE

Florida Humanities works to preserve, promote and share the history, literature, culture and personal stories that offer Floridians a better understanding of themselves, their communities and their state.

Since 1973, Florida Humanities has been the statewide, nonprofit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). As a grantmaker, we have awarded more than $20 million in support of statewide cultural resources and public programs strongly rooted in the humanities. These programs preserve Florida’s diverse history and heritage, promote civic engagement and community dialogue, and provide opportunities to reflect on the future of Florida. This year, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we invite you to learn more about the organization, how we work and our impact across the state.

HOW WE HELP

• Support libraries, museums, historical societies, public institutions and other cultural organizations with grant opportunities

• Deliver statewide humanities-based public programs, initiatives & a variety of resources

• Share stories through our award-winning magazine, FORUM, and Florida Stories Walking Tours app

• Partner with national cultural organizations, such as Smithsonian Institution and Library of Congress

OUR STORY

Now in our 50th year, Florida Humanities’ ongoing mission to preserve and share the history and cultures of Florida has made a profound impact in all regions across the state. The videos below tell the story of the history of our organization.

OUR IMPACT

Our impact across the state has enriched the lives of Floridians and their communities and the work of our funded partners. We’ve invested more than $20 million in supporting public humanities programs and initiatives, from exhibitions, community conversations, cultural events, book festivals, family literacy programs, documentaries and podcasts. And, with our award-winning magazine, FORUM, we are dedicated to sharing stories that expand and deepen our understanding of Florida.
