Presented By Peter Meinke
Peter Meinke has read his poetry all over the world, and in this program, which can be flexibly arranged, he’ll read generously from his books, talk about these specific poems and writing in general; and answer questions from the audience.
Eminent critics have said “Peter Meinke writes, it is clear, under a banner of wisdom,” and his “wit is sly, as dry as a good martini.”
Peter Meinke is Florida’s new Poet Laureate. His work has appeared in the Atlantic, The New Yorker, The Nation and scores of other journals; he’s received many major awards, including a Fulbright, two NEA Fellowships, and three prizes from the Poetry Society of America. He retired from Eckerd College in 1993, where he received its Distinguished Teacher Award in 1990. Peter has read his poems in over a dozen countries, and has been appointed Distinguished Writer-in-Residence at many colleges and universities, including Davidson, Emory, UNC-Greensboro, George Washington U., the U. of Hawaii, and others. The most recent of his 20+ books is Lucky Bones (2014), his eighth collection in the prestigious Pitt Poetry Series. Last April he received St. Petersburg’s First Sunlit Festival Lifetime Achievement Award.
