In this presentation, Dr. Holly Lynn Baumgartner share a playful but moving memoir about growing up in South Florida with rich details of the unique Florida environment and how it has changed over decades. As a storyteller, she weaves the cultural history and biology of the region into the essays. The reading is supplemented with a slideshow of historical archival documents, botanical prints, and personal photos illustrating some of the places, flora and fauna, and activities described.
About Holly Lynn
Holly Lynn Baumgartner is the Dean of the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences and Guy Harvey Oceanographic Research Center at Nova Southeastern University. Her most recent publications include pieces in the books Coming of Age in South Florida (Labbe & Pfeiffer, Florida Roots Press) and Art in Urban Space: Reflections on City Culture in Europe and North-America (Juhasz, Editions L’Harmattan). She has taught, published, and presented internationally on a variety of cultural and historical topics.
