Brennan Center for Justice’s Dr. Theodore R. Johnson, author of “When the Stars Begin to Fall: Overcoming Racism and Renewing the Promise of America,” makes a compelling argument for how we address race in America, inspired by the unique and enduring practices of the black community. “Motivated by an unshakable love of country rooted in a renewed sense of civil religion that is not beholden to the idols of race,” Johnson, a military veteran and a scholar, calls us to a higher place and compels us to follow him.
