Standing Together

Standing Down allowed us (vets) to bond and learn that no matter how unique our individual experiences are we all can find a common thread that connects us and allows us to understand and appreciate one another. Events like this one strengthen the veteran community.

About Standing Together

Since 2001, more than two million Americans have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, many risking everything in serving their country. Yet, as members of an all-volunteer service corps, they represent less than 1 percent of the U.S. population –- and their military experience is not always understood by the public at large. In response to this fact, the National Endowment for the Humanities recently launched a multiyear special initiative, Standing Together: The Humanities and the Experience of War. In cooperation with that initiative, the Florida Humanities Council offers programming that give veterans a platform to tell their unique and powerful stories.

The Vietnam War | A Film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick

The 10-part, 18-hour documentary film series is directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, and will premiere September 17, 2017, on PBS stations nationwide.
