
“Americans” Smithsonian Institution Museum on Main Street Exhibition

Okeechobee Main Street and Okeechobee Historical Society will host the Smithsonian traveling exhibition, “Americans” in the Okeechobee Historical Courthouse from October 17th to December 5th, 2026.
The exhibition explores how deeply intertwined American Indians are in the history, popular culture and identity of the United States. The exhibition will be open at the Historic Courthouse, Monday through Friday, 9 am until 5 pm. To schedule group tours or for any other information, visit our website.
The “Americans” exhibit was developed by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian and adapted for travel by the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street program. The statewide exhibition tour of “Americans” is made possible by Florida Humanities. Programmatic support is provided in cooperation with Florida State University’s Native American and Indigenous Studies Center.
