BLOWN AWAY: How Man-Made and Natural Disasters Wreaked Havoc on Miami
August 6 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This program focuses on Miami and South Florida in a very specific moment in time: 1926. Natural and man-made disasters combined that year and brought a growing metropolis to the edge of ruin. An old Miami was wrecked in 1926, but the seeds for the megalopolis known today were planted. Mr. Matthew Bunch guides audiences through the culture, civic life, challenges, and opportunities faced by Miamians in the significant year.
Matthew Bunch is a social sciences teacher with a focus on American history and government at the School for Advanced Studies, Kendall Campus. In his spare time, he hosts and produces “This Day in Miami History,” a podcast focused on history in and around Miami-Dade County. The podcast is the 2023 winner of the Hampton Dunn Digital Media Award from the Florida Historical Society.
Visitors to East Ridge Village need to enter through a security gate. Parking is in Three Palms across from the Auditorium.
