Gullah Geechee Foodways and Its Influence on Nassau County

May 28 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the West Nassau Historical Society for an engaging presentation to celebrate their exhibit, “Nassau = Food + Culture: What We Each Bring to the Table”. Guest presenter Glenda Simmons Jenkins will speak about Gullah Geechee influences on Nassau County foodways.

A meal will be served at 6:30 pm followed by the presentation at 7 pm. Admission is free, but donations are always accepted. The exhibit will be open from 5 pm to 8 pm next door, inside the historic Callahan Train Depot.

“Nassau = Food + Culture: What We Each Bring to the Table” is one of seven exhibitions statewide that explore the people, lands and histories that come together to tell the stories of Florida’s shared food experience. Sponsored by Florida Humanities with funding from the Jacarlene Foundation, this interactive exhibition is presented by the West Nassau Historical Society in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street program. Additional local support has been provided by Rayonier and Florida Power and Light.
