Ocoee is a small town in west Orange county first settled in the 1850s. On November 2, 1920, July Perry and Mose Norman, both of whom were Black, attempted to vote at the local polling stations. However, the Klu Klux Klan attacked and killed multiple Black citizens of the town. This presentation investigates the political and racial circumstances around the massacre and how it applies to Ocoee today.

Dr. Vincent Edward Oluwole Adejumo is currently a Senior Lecturer of African American Studies and affiliate Senior Lecturer of Political Science at the University of Florida. Dr. Adejumo was selected as the Professor of the Year by the UF Black Student Union for the 2015-16 school year and as the Professor and Advisor of the Year by the UF College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the 2017-18 school year.
